The Danish energy developer, European Energy, and the Swedish operator for offshore wind power, Svea Vind Offshore, have signed a letter of intent for the purchase of detailed industrial land in Ljusne-Vallvik outside S\u00f6derhamn. The goal is to use the land for the construction of an e-methanol factory that could become one of the world’s largest and a major employer in S\u00f6derhamn. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

European Energy is currently a world leader in the development of commercial e-methanol production and is currently building what will be the world’s largest plant for e-methanol in the municipality of Aabenraa in Denmark. That facility will be able to produce at least 32,000 tons of e-methanol per year for users such as Maersk, Lego, Novo Nordisk and Circle K. European Energy sees great potential in the Swedish market and is very happy to be able to take the first step together with Svea Wind Offshore. <\/p>\n\n

– We hope to soon be able to take further steps together with Svea Vind Offshore, which with its local anchoring and position in the green transition is a very good match for us<\/em>, says Peter Braun, project manager for European Energy in Sweden, Norway and Finland and continues:<\/p>\n\n

– An increased production of e-methanol in Sweden will be central to changing sectors that are difficult to electrify, for example heavy industry and certain transports.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

By replacing fossil fuel with e-methanol in, for example, shipping and truck traffic, emissions of climate gases are reduced to close to zero. The planned plant in S\u00f6derhamn is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually. <\/p>\n\n

– The area has good conditions to gain access to what is needed for large-scale e-methanol production, including Svea Vind Offshore’s project portfolio for new green electricity production in the near term, detailed industrial land and water<\/em>, says J\u00fcrgen Jacoby, Senior Project Developer at European Energy.<\/p>\n\n

Svea Vind Offshore is working to accelerate the transition by contributing renewable energy and various collaborative projects within the industry: <\/p>\n\n
