Women driving the energy industry forward

The energy industry is changing – and more women are needed to lead the green transition. We’ve met women who are contributing in different ways, and they are now sharing their stories to inspire more people to take their place in the industry.

“Dare to be brave, take a seat and ask questions. No one knows everything from scratch!” says Helen Wittesjö, Global Project Manager at GreenIron. She emphasizes the importance of networking and surrounding yourself with mentors to grow in your professional role.

Several of the women say they did not have a clear energy background to begin with, but that interest and curiosity were key to finding the right one. Sofia Erinder, Partner Developer at Siemens, initially thought she needed a long energy engineering degree to get a job in the industry:
“I didn’t have an energy background, but a single course in energy was enough to get the job I wanted.”

Hanna Langels, Business Developer at Flower, describes the hydrogen industry as an industrial revolution:
“The best decision I made was to get into the hydrogen business. There is so much going on right now!”

For Åsa Lyckström, Head of Sustainability at Siemens Energy, the energy industry is a place where many different skills are needed:
“Think of the energy industry as a hospital. There are doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators – everyone has an important role. It’s exactly the same here! Whether you are passionate about technology, business development or sustainability, there is a place for you.”

Fanny Lindgren, Account Manager at Siemens, highlights the breadth and development opportunities of the energy industry:
“Do you want to be involved and influence? Then this is where it happens.”
